During his Apostolic journey across Africa, Pope Leo XIV clarified that his visit is focused on faith, unity, and peace—not political debate.
Speaking to journalists aboard the flight to Angola, the Pope emphasized that he is traveling as a spiritual leader to encourage Catholics and strengthen their faith.
He rejected claims that he is engaging in any form of dispute with U.S. President Donald Trump, saying that such interpretations are inaccurate. According to him, his speeches were prepared weeks earlier and were not responses to any political remarks.
The Pope noted that media narratives had sometimes misrepresented his intentions by linking his messages to political tensions.
Reflecting on his visit to Cameroon, he described the country as “the heart of Africa,” highlighting its cultural and linguistic diversity.
He also stressed the importance of interfaith dialogue, mentioning his meeting with Muslim leaders and the need to promote understanding, fraternity, and peace among all religions.
Following the legacy of Pope Francis, Pope Leo XIV reiterated his commitment to building bridges between communities.
He also addressed the issue of unequal wealth distribution in Africa, calling for justice and fairness as essential elements for lasting peace.
As his journey continues to Angola, the Pope reaffirmed his mission to proclaim the Gospel and promote unity, justice, and peace across the continent.
He concluded by thanking the people of Cameroon for their warm welcome and expressed joy at witnessing the strong faith and enthusiasm of the local community.
